With the older trucks, I would say that body and frame rust take a big part in the inspection. Next thing to check is the engine and transmission, also if it has 4wd try engaging it and going in a circle. If the tires do not jump then it is not working properly. Watch whenever you start it and see if it is smoking or anything. Use your best judgement and take it for a spin. If it rides nice and sounds decent then most the time the truck is worth it.

Get the truck up to running temp what the oil pressure do does it stay close to the same when hot and cold pull the oil cap hose from the breather or pcv vavle does it have any blowby Can you run a comprassin test on it? You can park it on a fresh piece of concret look for leaks Check the rear end for heavy oilaround it what does the bottom of the truck look like Coated with motor oil? If yes the could be rear main seal or oil pan. If it has transmisson fluid the look at it and check the oil pan or dipstick tube .How does the truck drive can you drive one tire over a speed bump and listen for a bump under your feet Look at the seals on the tie rod ends orball joints are they there it check compants with a bar for slack or jack up the front wheels when you move it left and right or up and down. I like to get to know the truck and get a second opinen if in doubt

Just me and my ways

Sorry to butt in but what does this tell you? I have never heard of this check. Hot oil runs easier so checking for restrictions in passage ways or loose bearings causing a drop when it gets hot? You caught my attention.

Good Luck,

Lee

Ever heard of the old carlot trick of putting 20w-50w oil in a wore out motor sure it has good oil preasure when cold but when it gets hot and at a idle it drops to nearly nothing
