I have a 99 F-350 PSD,Dually, all stock except Tymar intake. I don't know if this is a problem or not so I thought I would ask. It seems that lately that while in O/D and coming to a stop the RPM's drop real rapidly after 1500. I have never really noticed it before. It doesn't do it if I turn off the O/D. Yesterday I changed the oil & filter in the tranny and haven't had a chance to see if it has made a difference yet. I'm concerned with this as I will be leaving tomorrow with our 32' 5th wheel and wouldn't like to have any problems. Has anyone elese ever had this occur and is it a problem? Everything else seems to work as advertised.
Thanks for any input.
Sounds like your torque converter is not coming out of lockup. I don't think it will strand you anywhere but you might have trouble with idling at a stoplight. It will be real draggy on the motor. It happened on my dad's gasser and the dealer had to replace the whole torque converter. But your situation may be different. It might be a simple computer reflash and you're done.
It actually acts like the torque convertor is coming unlocked to soon, but then again I don't know. I know that when I bought the truck it had Mercon V in it and I changed that out the first day I had it but I don't know how many miles had been put on it with the mercon V in it. I bought it used and the guy I bought from said that he had just changed it. What is the best way to get it re-flashed, Just take it to the local dealer?

Yes. Unless somebody here on the forum knows better.
I wouldn't get the PCM reflashed.....you may not like the other parameters it overwrites. I've heard too many reflash horror stories, and once it's done there's no going back.
I'm no tranny guy, but the T/C unlocking was the first thing to cross my mind too, that or maybe a coast clutch problem.
It appears to me like it could be a coast clutch problem to with what little knowledge I have of automatics. Is this something that can be repaired or does it mean a new tranny? How do I tell which tranny is in this truck so if I need to get a new one I can go pick one up?
The transmission will disengage itself, unlock the torque converter and act as if you put it into neutral, when you reach a certain speed 30-35 mph when od is on so the rpms will drop faser, when you have od off it will not disengage it self it stays in drive and will down shift the slower the speed you go until you stop.
Hey, This isen't exactly something to do with the what you are talking about but I saw Tranny prob and clicked. I have been told by quite a few people that used to own the 7.3 that they had to replace their transmisions a few times because the engine was too strong for the tranny. I was woundering if any of you guys know about this problem because so far I am real satisfied with my whole trucks preformence. It is a 00 350 PSD 4*4 with 215k miles on it (a heck of a lot of Texas and New Mexico Highway driving) and I haven't had to replace a single part of it so far (knock on wood)
Well I finally drove the truck yesterday afternoon since I changed the oil & filter and it seems to have fixed the problem that I was seeing. Thanks to everyone that has had an input on this.
