I am currently looking to put up a work shop and was wondering if anyone has used a Morton Building? I've looked at their catalogs and also their web site, looks like high quality material and workmanship! Any replies of the pros and cons would be appreciated! Thanks
I don't personally own one, but most of the farmers around here prefer Morton over FBI and the other companies. They hold up very well and have a wide selection of options available. You can even get a Morton house!
I'm in the process of building a 36x60x12 with a 6:12 roof and 6x68 porch. I looked at Morton for this build. Two things turned me off, price and layout. My shop would have cost about 80 grand through them. My neighbor was quoted 55 grand for a Morton building about half the size of mine.
I'm building mine with a steal frame and conventional materials on the outside. You can't beat the quality, longevity, clearspan space and add-on flexability. Also, I am installing a 12 ft main track door on a 12 ft eve shop. You can't do that on a Morton building. Besides that, you have to be careful about door height on a Morton if you want a slab too. The slab is poured after the building is up so you lose a few inches of door height. It's just not worth it.
Morton is just down the road from me. I put up a Lester pole building and like it really well. The guys at Morton think they are they the best, depends on the crew that erects the building.
Check out Lester or Butler steel. With the weather in Florida I am sure wood is at a premium right now.
I live in a 40 x60 metal building in Okla. 40 x 40 is 2 bed house and the rest is play area for mower, tractor ,car, etc plus my 2 rollaways. I built this place for $25.5K about 5 years ago and finished the inside myself. Entire building is insulated as well as my stud walls, thus I can not hear the rain when it does.
Priced the Morton buildings, but did not like the price or attitude of sales staff. They wanted more than double what I gave for my building. Building has a 16 ft double car door, 10 ft tractor door, 2 -36" walk doors and above all - 7 windows. My price also included the slab that building is on.

Hummm...I was going to be nice but since you did mention it I have a feeling I was not alone on the subject of sales people.
Another item is wall height, mine is 16' with the overhead door off-set to the side. I have a 20x14 roll up, Morton could only center the door because of the rafter design. Morton is a quailty building, but not the best in the world, so shop around.
I got a 24x30 morton building in my back yard as my garage it is great and the envy of the neighborhood. I would have it insulated for sure if i were you I just done mine myself last week after 3 years of waiting.. What a big difference..
