fuel system trouble shooting
I need help that I didn't find - probably has been answered - sorry.
88 250 dual tanks. Front works, rear doesn't. Gauge works on both. Turn switch to rear tank, engine stumbles and dies. I have the rear tank down to replace the in-tank pump, but before I buy one I was wondering....
Questions are: What electrical values should I have on the pump, wiring to the pump, etc.?
What is the best way to figure out if I'm dealing with bad in-tank pump or strange fuel selector problem?

Since you have the pump out, apply 12 volts direct to the pump and see if it runs.
Red wire positive black wire ground.
Don't run it long.
If you do replace the pump, also test the new one before
you install it.
The selector switch and the manual diverter valve don't fail very often. The in tank pump is a common failure item.
Also don't forget to replace the sock on the end of the pump. Note the position of the old one because once you snap it on, it's hard to reposition.
