Exclamation 6.0 Sudden power loss on accel

I have an ’04 F-250SD with the 6.0 PSD. I have been having trouble for about the last month with a sudden power loss while driving at various speeds. It seems to happen when I am accelerating, like starting off from a light or up a hill but it is not limited to those times. When it happens, it results in a sudden power loss and a click in the dash followed by the glow plug light and the water in fuel light illuminating for about 2 seconds and then going out. At this time the truck will pick back up and go. Sometimes it only seems to have partial power until I let off the accelerator. It was throwing p2614 and p2617 when I first took it to the dealership. They replaced the FICM harness assembly and called me to come get it. It did it a block from the dealership. I took it back and the said they replaced the lower part of the assembly as well. It worked for fourteen days before doing it again. I took it to another dealer close by and they replaced the PCM and said to come get it. I went to get it and it did it 2miles from the dealership. I took it back and got the technician and we went for a ride. It did it for him with the computer hooked to my truck but it didn't throw any DTC's sooooo here we are, in the mad search for the proverbial needle in the haystack. I cannot believe this is a mechanical problem unless it is some sort of sensor or something. The truck runs too good when it is not doing this. I think they are just missing some sort of short. What are your thoughts?<O</O

This sounds like a classic case of wire harness chafing. There's likely a dozen or more threads on this topic here.

I know what you need to do

[B]Hey Buddy...........I had the same problem....if you read back in April's forum.....! My truck spent almost three weeks in the shop. They first had said it was the cam positioning sensor, which they replaced, didn't fix it. Then they said it was the accelerator sensor, replaced it, fried the replacement, replaced it again and still did not fix it. They replaced the whole computer....didn't fix it...........and then the Accelerator sensor had to be replaced once more (went through two new Accel. Sensor). Then finally they went through it with a comb and magnifying glass and found that the number 8 cyclinder wiring harness had a broken clip and was, sort, of bouncing around causing a loose connection. They replaced the whole wiring harness for that cyclinder and then that fixed the problem.......make a copy of this and tell your technician.....give him some help......!

I'll tell you right now..........I would get my truck up to speed on the interstate (75 mph) then, usually while going up a grade, the truck would cut out, rpm would drop to idling speed with no acceleration, even if I pressed the pedal to the floor. It would re-engage when I would let off the pedal and then press it again! Some time it would happen while taking off at a stop light.............it happened anytime, any situation....! Hope this helps you buddy!
