Hey guys, this is my first post here. I've been on here for awhile and have already learned a lot just from reading.
I recently bought an '02 F250 Lariest used. It has the reverse sensors on it but they don't seem to work. The defeat switch on the dash say "off" and does not change when I'm in reverse and I've backed right up against a wall with no tones.
I assume the previous owner disabled the feature for one reason or another. Do any of you guys know the most likely way they did that or do you think that it is broken? All the sensors on the bumper look like they are in good shape.
The light on the dash should not be lit. It lights at start up and quickly turn off. If "off" is illuminated, the sensor is disabled. To enable it, with the ingition ON, place the vehicle in Reverse, and press the button. The "off" light should go out. If the "off" still iluminates, there might be a problem with the system. Don't give up after one try. I had to go through the process 3 or 4 times before it worked. Once it works, you NEVER what to back up with out them EVER again.

Problem is that they can be intermittantly buggy and hard to diagnose. There are a couple of long threads on this in the past couple of years. Most of the problems, mine included are false alarms. I would be more concerned if, like yours, they stopped working. You come to depend on them after a while and when they work properly, they are a great feature.
