short history:
original california truck(san bernandino area)ended up in florida early 80's35.000 mlies on clock
father buoght it in 89 from used truck lot for 1200 cash
some one put a 302from a 78 granada in with mismached heads and valve train.360 was long gone before we got it.
soldiered on for years until rodknock started.sent off to rebuild the 302 but shop didnt tell us about the cracked crank and wrong valvetrain.
dec.01 truck snaps crank before #3 main journal-it ran horribly 10 miles to my dads house before overheating horribly.....resurface heads,20/20 crank kit.
march 02
#6 cylinder drops valve and finally finishes off the *******ized 302.
turns out the engine had early rail-rocker pivot ball heads,but whoever did the
valve job stuck 78-newer fulcrum style valves /retainers in,causing the rocker to slowly beat the keepers out.
messed with fox mustangs 5.0/windsors 347/331"s etc-no problems
but,the ONE 302 i found at the local pull your own came from a rear collision
mustang complete with serp belt setup.
took engine home and pulled pan
no broke crank
correct heads
pulled #8 rod cap(last to get oil i figured)slight wear not bad
august 04
truck sat enginless for a year
so i
buttoned it up put it in the truck.
50 pounds oil pressure and some lifter rattle
i let it run and the rattle clears up but the damn engine knocks DAMN!
lesson learned!!!
pulling motor this saturday and ill condemn the engine so i can buy the truck from the old man
ill try to get the 302 runnable but im feeling a need for a 390with a stick
we'll see......................wish me luck
