I have replaced the stock speakers in mine with polk audio's. Your 6 disc will work but your power for your amp will be seperate from your changer. It should sound much better after you are done.
I replaced the stock speakers with Infinity 6x8's fit perfectly and handle a good amount of power. I got the 3 channel (I think, they're the ones with the tweeter inside), I might be wrong but someone will correct me. I'm running a 600 watt 4 ch amp to the speakers, and I use the stock HU. I had a shop do the work, they wired everything up using 2 gauge straight to the power block, and 8 guage on the inside. Sounds great, but not enough for audiophile like me . Hope this helps.
Just installed four of these Pioneer 6"X8" three-ways that I got at Wal-Mart. I think they sound great and you can't beat the price. Perfect fit - no mods required.

FYI.. 6"x8" and 5"x7" are the same speaker. The only difference is the placement of the screw tabs, which is easily rendered by just using 1/2" self-taping screws. The infinity 5X7 is hands down the best clarity and decent bass for the money. I'm talking about their reference series by the way. Polk is going to give you more treble but less clarity and bass. Please however don't expect bass out of 5x7's that you might get out of a 10". It all really depends on what you listen to. Secondly, make sure you pick up speaker harnesses. It will save you time from having to tap into the wires behind the factory speaker plug. Plus, the plug will still be there to put the factories back in should you ever need to. Third, You might find Crutchfield more expensive than your local Circuit City etc.... I would highly recommend doing this yourself. Average installer time is 5mins a door. That's disassembling and re-assembling. If you need panel removal directions just ask. Hope this helps.
I put some Infinity Kappa 572.5cf's in all 4 doors many moons ago. I was planning to go bananas on my trucks system, but time & money ran out looong ago. They're good speakers, come with their own external crossovers, and sound great cranked up. Infinity Kappa 572.5cf's at Crutchfield

Bunny,
I went with Kenwood from crutchfield. They were comperable to everyone else on price and you get the pigtails and instruction with it. The best part is they give you 30 days money back and they pay the freight for return. Easy to install aswell.
Since you have to take the trim panels off to install the speakers, you may want to put some sound deadening material on the doors before installing the speakers and trim. It should help reduce road noise inside.
That's why I've been holding off on replacing the speakers. I'm trying to decide what product to use on the doors and the roof. Any suggestions?
Polk are an excellent speaker; I have Rockford/Fosgate 6X8's with a 900 watt amp and 10" sub-woofer tied to a Pioneer receiver and 12-CD changer. It sounds, uh....... niiiiiiiiiiiice.... Yea, boy!!!
With just a little bit of modding, driling 2 holes, I got a pair of 6 1/2" MB Quartz components put in the front doors with a second pair in the rear doors (a bit more work). I'm running a six channel 560 watt JBL amp that also pushes a 10" sub behind the rear bench. I'm not into heavy bass, just pure fidelity, richness and warmth to the music.
Just a few more $ than Infinity's 6x8s and they make a pretty good 5 1/2 or 6 1/2 component in their Reference and Kappa lines. Well worth the $ and install time as you get a much better sound field from components.
If your really into it, I recommend ditching the factory location for the rear 6x8s. Most of your sound is going directly into the rear seat cushion. Go for the doors.
My cab came out sounding like a high end audio sound room! I truly regret not doing it sooner.
