I went with the Boston Acoustic two-ways, I think they sound much better than the Infinitys that I used to have.

When you guys are installing new speakers do you also install the new grills that come with the speakers? Or just reinstall the door panel and call it good. Thanks

That's why I've been holding off on replacing the speakers. I'm trying to decide what product to use on the doors and the roof. Any suggestions?
Jim, I researched this quite a bit. Dynamat is the name brand that you'll find in your local stereo shop but it is quite costly. See http://www.crutchfield.com/S-8dFYyl7...search=dynamat

There are several other similar products out there at fractions of the cost. The best that I found is Raammat http://www.raamaudio.com/products.htm from a guy in LaJolla CA. $1.58/sqft vs $5.52/sqft

I used 200 sqft in my '00 Celica (doors, floor, hatch area) and the difference was amazing. The stock system sounds 10x better and the reduction of road noise was great. IMO without using sound dampening/deadening materials you are only gaining fractions of what you are spending on expensive audio equipment.

Especially if you have a diesel.

I replaced both sets of door speakers with the JL Audio 5x7s (TR570CXi) they sound awesome. Of course I am powering them with a separate 4 channel JL Amp (300/4). I also run 2 JL 12s in the back (12w3v2) powered by JL Amp (500/1). This set up sounds great. I need to put some sound dampener too, a should have thought about that! D'oh!

Question Where to put a sub woofer?

I have a 1999 CC PSD and looking at the 2005. I currently have a Precision Power (PPI) 600 watt amp, a CD changer and a PPI 10" sub, all behind the rear seat. I removed the '99 plastic tray behind the seat to make room for all. I built an angular sub box that snugly (tight) fits.

I looked at the 2005s and it looks like the space behind the rear seat is consumed by the truck jack and related accessories. I don't see anywhere to put my sub. Any suggestions????

Hey everyone;
I was also tired with the stock sound. I finally closed my eyes and changed everything. I put a pioneer dvd/cd in dash player, 5x 7 JL audio speakers in the front only, a 8" inch JL sub behind the seat and a JL audio amp to power everything. And wow clear crisp loud and no distortion at all. The only speakers that are stock are the rear speakers cause the installer said I would not really need to change them. And he was right. 2003 f250 crew cab.

My '04 CC has the 6 disc stereo in it. Can I add a amp and use the factory wires already there or will I need to cut it up? The infinity's in the front doors I can handle.

Thanks

Yes, you can do all that. Tapping into speaker wires, line level inputs, works pretty well. You'll want to re-route the lines into the amp and then out to the speakers to make the most of your configuration and amp. It's pretty much straight forward and easy running the lines.

Jlower, do you have any pics or can you describe your rear door speaker install?

6" components are what you put in the rear door?

Thanks.

J.

I don't have a digital camera but this site is making me want one one real bad. Maybe I could convince the wife to get one for an upcoming (not sure when) vacation......

I'm using 6 1/2" components surface mounted on the bottom of the rear doors closest to the hinging. I originaly had Infinity Kappas 5 1/4" on the fronts and 6x7 in the normal rears spots. They went right in with just a couple of drilled holes for mounting. But I wan't happy with the dead sound areas in the rear.

I had the new system put in by a car audio specialist. They told me that they didn't require any extra cutting to get the 6 1/2" in place on the front. They still fit behind the panel. Rear doors were no problem either. They just took a Roto-Zip to make the hole, then surface mounted them.

I'll try to get a picture of it soon.

I replace all of the stock oem parts with aftermarket items.

JVC mp3 player memphis audio memphis belle 4x115w & 1x1300w@1ohm.

2 RF HX2 12's in a huge box

and 4 6X8 orion's (these will make your ear bleed 3ohm speaker great sound and really eff.)

System sounds great ony problem is the huge box for the 12's has made my 04 f-250 crew cab in to a 4 seater.

Has anyone had a box built or know of anyone who builds a box that will fit 2 deep 12's or at least a couple of 10's...
