Broken spindle?

I don't know if y'all look at my thread on a bad weekend, but now that I got my wits back I need to now if anyone can me a idea if my 35 inch swampers was the cause of the spindle brakin b/c of the weight. If so then I want to go with 33 inch boggers and have 3.50 gears. What gear ratio would I have to change too match 33,s in the front and 35,s in the back? I hope this is not a stupid ? but I been thinking if I can get more weight off of the front end then it would pull better in the mud. It doesn't do too bad now with the gears I have. Any other help would be appreciated.

Assuming that your tires are actually the size as marked (The 35s are actually 35 in tall etc) and you want to keep the 3.50 gears in one end or the other, change the rear to 3.71, or change the front to 3.30. the easiest to do, and to find would be to put a set of 3.73 gears into the rear, that would be close enough.

Why not just run the same size tire and gear ratio front and rear?

because he is mud bogging, and that is actually very commen to run different size tires front, and rear, I am running 35s rear, and 34 in the front, and I run 5.00:1 rear gears with 4.88:1 front.

Unless you are running a diesel engine, I seriously doubt that the 35's caused your breakage. It was most likely just a freak occurance- Ive seen chevy spindles bend and ford's break balljoints but Ive yet to see a ford spindle break (fullsize, anyway)

The spindle broke around the upper balljoint. I have never seen it before either, thats the reason I was asking. It is a 77 fullsize running gear.

i was confused about that or would have helped out earlier!

if you look in my gallery my buddy did that exact same thing to his 76 highboy. i had to pull him 150 yards through mud with 3 wheels b/c he busted his driver side front. had to put it in the bed

Sorry about using the wrong terminolgy, my mistake. Do you guys think that it broke because of the weight or do you think maybe it was cracked from the rough pits I been running. My other ? is do you think I should move the engine back about 6 inches to get more weight off of the front axle. Also when the steering knuckle broke I was halfway through the pit and almost come out of the pit, placed 8th out of 28 trucks, so was pretty proud of the little truck. Thanks guys!!!!

I really doubt it was the weight more likely a combination of age abuse, and rough pits, didn't you say in another thread that you had hit so hard it ripped the wheel out of your hands? and then just a lifetime of abuse probably just gave out, heck someone could have even beat the ball joints out at one time or another, and that will help to weaken it, and that front end was built to handle the weight of your engine plus the heavy body that came origanally, so I really wouldn't worry just replace it, nad go if it happens again then you need to take another look but doubt it will, although you could loose ball joints that is just something you need to look at from time to time as a normal maintanance routine.

I wouldn't get too excited; like monsterbaby said, it is probably from old age + the extra abuse.

I used a 2lb sledge to loosen my balljoints.. I am suprised they [the knuckles] haven't cracked yet

I would agree- just change the knuckle and have more fun - I used to tough truck race and now the mud racing I do is obstacle course style, so I have seen a LOT of truck abuse. Still havent seen a knuckle break, unless you count chevys bolts pull out of the knuckle.
