subwoofer cuts out

I have a 96 explorer limited with the JBL stereo system. The subwoofer cuts out whenever I turn up the volume to a "listening" level. I can't turn the bass level above neutral zone or it dies. It does come back on after the trucks been off for a while. Any suggestions or does anyone else experience this?
Thanks.

i would just check the connections overall. if they all seem secure check and see if you blew your sub. i knwo those rear 8 inch small enclosure subs can handle that much, mine sounds like its gunna explodde when i turn it up high.also check your wires for any frays or cuts of the sort.

Yeah...check if the sub is blown. My sub was crackling whenver it's up to listening level so I took the speaker out and found that the voice coil was on its last leg so I replaced it with a Rockford Fosgate.

BTW, '95-'97 JBL systems are 6.5", not 8". '98 and newer Explorers use 8" subs.

Search ebay for a 6.5" subwoofer. I got one for about $15 and it works fine. I think the brand was Pyramid.
