tilt front end

im trying to put my body back together and would like to do a tilt front end. but i really wanna use my original sheet metal thats in great shape. anybody ever done this with the metal parts? or do i need to go with a fiberglass front end(not gonna). thanks for the help

it can be done in steel, a bit of work, but worth the effort, if need be i could chase a feature on one in Australia that was very neat, i beleive he used a system not unlike the ford LNT or LTS prime movers from the mid 70's through the 80's. the gaurds were cut through the rear turn down in the wheel opening at an angle and had a lip folded so it looked finished.
i just can't remember if he used rear guide pins or something else to stop the sheet metal slamming the cab on rough roads, especially if your still using a grandpa style frame /suspension

tilt front end

hey thanks for the info gary and id appreciate any tech. hints or help. hope to get some pics of the project on here soon. wade

Well...if you have a welder and some metal fab skills, it is not THAT hard. You need some 1/4" or 5/16" flat steel to make the hinges. You have to fab a mechanism to hold it open. It can be opened manually but looks and works better with a hydraulic or mechanical opener. If you have any questions I may be able to help. There are a few pics in my gallery showing the way I did my nose.

tgregoire, looks like you've done a great job on your tilt f-end,when i get closer to that project I'll have to look ya up for some details.
