ok,i was waondering on my 72 ford f100 swb, where the hingers bolt to the body of the truck ,on top there is a rust hole, like i can see the ground, wut do i have to replace?thx all
i just got a sheet of steel bent and cut the rusty chunk out on both sides, about 8 inches of it after i marked new "hinger holes" lol, and welded it in. you can tell i did it by looking at it but it is heavier steel.
if you are good at welding or have the resources just cut out the bad spot and get a piece of plat and weld it back in or you could cut a slightly larger piece and bolt or rivet it to the existing inner fender or just replace the inner fender.
Another hole/bondo question. I am in the process of filling the holes in my 69 body that were intended to hold the trim clips....range in size from 1/8" to maybe 1/4 or 5/16?...anyway must these be welded or can I use Duraglass? What is the best way? I don't want to mess with trying to weld them all shut and end up distorting the door and body panels....
layers?? there shoudl only be one piece of metal that the hinge is bolted too but the best addvice is to cut out all the rust spots and replace them with new steel if you havent looked under the battery tray this may be a good time because you may find the same thing (large rust hole) if so my $.02 would be too replace the inner fender.
as for the other guy my dad welded all the holes shut on his truck and never warped a panel you just have to be carefull about how you do it use low heat try to use a piece of heavier material behind the hole (a hammer usually works good ) to keep form burning through and then skip around while welding dont work in a straight line weld one hole in the frint then go to the bed and weld one then the back then go to the other side and go until all the holes are filled.
