They are totally electronic, programmable gauges (the kits include the leads and probes/sensors for each gauge). They have warning lights built in (also programmable) and each unit provides two gauges in one pod unit...
The part I found most interesting is the programmable outputs built into them. The outputs enable the gauges to trigger a circuit (for a relay or external LED's) that can serve for any function you would like.
The possibilities would be endless. For guys with water injection, you could wire the EGT gauge to kick the injection system on at a preset point. You could engineer your own *limp* mode based on fuel pressure, boost, oil temp or oil pressure, or anything else available on the gauges. This could be a real lifesaver to alot of us who visit the track frequently or do heavy towing. It would even be possible to construct your own shut-down timer with the EGT gauge output if you were so-minded.
My mind is running wild with possibilites after seeing this
Everyone else kick in their ideas here, there is no telling what sort of system could be developed off such a base.
I wouldn't mind the Boost and EGT.
How much are they?
I think the prices are listed at the bottom of the page. If not, there are several diesel performance shops that carry them; Motorhaven could probably get them also. They run from 200-400 bucks depending on the models; cumulatively not much more than standard gauges due to the fact that you are getting 2 in one.
