I had one of my 390 blocks sonic checked, and guess what i can go 80 over. i already have a 428 crank and rods, and a good set of ported C6AE-R heads, and an S code intake. i also have a performer intake if that would be any better. im planing on putting this in a 73 2wd w/ a C6 auto. i want something that is fairly streetable, but will still put me back in the seat when needed. those are the parts i have now and want to use. i have a 292 comp cam also. i need help finding the right pistons and cam. i would like to use that 292 if i could. thanks
What is the casting number and date code on the block? The 292 would probably work well. The performer intake doesn't match up with the RPM range of that cam though. I would sell the S-code and performer on ebay and get the RPM. Otherwise I would choose a smaller cam. The bigger intake ports on the C6 heads would love to be mated with the RPM intake.
the block is one of those mirrored 501 blocks they put in pickups in the mid 70s. oh and i also have big tube headers. so a different intake is what i need to look into? what about pistons. what kind of compression ratio should i look for?
Do you need to run pump gas? Is the block a D3TE or a D4TE? This can be found on the passenger side of the block. The date code can be found by the oil filter adapter.
If you're going to get custom pistons anyway to get the desired compression, then you might just go with a slightly smaller bore. Just to leave some room for error or another rebuild.
