new gears

I have a d44HD and a d60 in my 78 f250. With a lift and tires I think I want to go with 4.56s. My question is will that ratio fit in the same carrier as my 3.54s. If more than just the r&p is needed, what will I need to get?

4.56 is the carrier break. The wide 4.56 front gear is $$$. If I had it to do over I'd buy the carrier & use the thin 4.56 gear, because now I want to go to 5.13.

I went from 3.55 to 4.56 in my Dana 60 Reverse front axle and used the stock carrier with thick gears. A thick reverse-cut D60 gearset from Dana/Spicer was about $275. I don't know what it would cost for a regular-cut rear D60. I imagine it would be cheaper for D44 thick gearset than for a D60...

Is the thin gear much weeker? This will be used to pull medium weight trailers(3000-7000lbs). Also some off road.

Technically, I guess it could be weaker, but I doubt you will break a standard 'thin' ring gear doing what you are intending to do with the truck .
