95 Aerostar- No interior heat, engine overheating
I've got a 95 Aerostar, 3.0 liter, and now that it's cold outside, the heat stopped working and as of yesterday, she's overheating something fierce. Is this a thermostat problem, or something worse?
No visible leaks under the vehicle (kinda hard to miss antifreeze on snow)...just a crapload of steam coming from the grille.
Any ideas?

Thermostat is a likely culprit if you have already ruled out loose/broken fan belt, low coolant level or upper/lower hose problems. If a thermostat change out does not correct the problem then more serious issues would be water pump or radiator related concerns. Thermostats are a frequent problem with the 3.0 and 4.0 engines, so that would be a logical and inexpensive starting point. They come in four or five different temperature ranges, so ask at the desk for help if unsure of the correct one for your application.

I would pull the thermostat and put it in a cup of boiling water & see if it opens. If it does you know you found the problem. If it does open I would replace it & than go pull the water pump. I have seen it were the pump blades were broken or loose on the shaft causing no heat & over heating.:-staun
