Hey guys, I've read all 26 pages in the search on this topic but it hasn't really answered any of my questions. I bought one and I am waiting to put it on. You guys that have the lund solar visor on your superdutys do you like them? Is there alot of wind noise or chattering? Any help or advise on how to put it on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Good question, I was thinking about the same thing. I noticed that the Ford Brochure has a picture of a factory made sun visor. Looks like a Lund but its OEM, so maybe easier to install.... or not...
I know my uncle had one on his truck but I dont remeber much noise as his had the air relief vents. I would say that there was a little but not to bad. I am sure that one without it would probably whin a bit.
Speaking from experience on removing these to replace windshields, I would strongly advise against drilling holes in your roof, I have seen too many rusted, and spinning nuts on truck roofs. They make a mess of your roof sooner or later. Leaking can be a big problem also.
The two worst things I ever put on my truck were the Lund visor and the vent shades!
Wind noise bothers me greatly and now I got it big, if it bothers you as well then don't do it!
I had a Platinum superduty with the Factory visor. It was mounted to factory hard points on the roof line. In other words Ford had engineered depressions in the roof with spot welded backing plates on the inside. At 70mph or higher the visor vibrated a LOT! I had to take off my bug deflector the vibration was so violant.
Admittedly the Lund and the Ford visors are designed a little differently. My factory visor had no way for any air to pass under. However I did have to take it off twice to put new seal in due to water in the cabin. Got a good look at how it was mounted and I highly doubt that you can easily provide that much strength with some holes drilled into the roof for the Lund version. You will need to drop the head liner and add good stiffiners to the inside.
I loved the look, but will NOT be adding this to my 05 F350.
