i picked up my new 2005 ford expedition limited today. iafter i picked it up, i had to take my wife to a quilt show about a half hour away from the dealer. so on the way back to the dealer i look up ford dealer and found the one i bought the car at followed the direction at it said we had arrived. no ford dealer. when 2 more miles to the ford dealer and sales man said they moved from that location four years ago. got home and took the kids for a ride and to dariy queen and turn the nav on again and once again the dariy queen had moved 6 years ago, my wife put in libary and the same thing happen it moved about 8 years ago. for $2,000 you would think they would update it at least every year, and at least update the ford dealers. has anybody else had the same problem?
Is your map data "Navtech"? The disk label should tell you. (I have an '04 with the archaic VNR). When you consider the total number of "points of interest" they have to store, I think they are doing pretty well. I have run into a few out of date locations like you mention (but certainly not two glaring examples in any one day, let alone the first day!). But overall I'm pretty impressed with the accuracy of the data.
Does your navigational system use a touch screen or is it like the '03-'04 version with the buttons on the sides of it? Is it a DVD based system with just 1 disk for the whole US?
When I consider what my little Garmin Vista can do, I don't think Navtech is doing very well at all. My area in Wisconsin was developed in the early to mid 70's, and they don't have ANY of the neighborhood roads on the cd at all.
Garmin however has all of them, even has roads that the average person would think are just trails in the woods. It can even tell me where to get gas, eat, etc.
There are some subdivisions in my neighborhood that are less than two years old and they are on my Navtech cd's. And isn't your Garmin vista using Navtech? (If it uses Mapsource 5 it is).
And please don't thinnk I'm defending the VNR. I bought this thing last month and I am seriously dissapointed by the old technology in the VNR.
I thought the '05 navigation was advertised as being a DVD based system with a single disk. I guess the 5 disks are better than the 9 disks with the '03 system.
Does the navigational CD's load into the 6-disk changer to operate the system?
I saw an 05 X Limited on my dealership lot this weekend. The navigation system looks identical to my 03. Just curious how it only uses 5 discs now though.
I just turned in a 2003 and am waiting for my 2005 limited...on indeffinate hold, supposed to be the next one off the line...but enough on that story. I received in the mail an offer to order the new navigation CD's (enhanced map data to help make your driving experiences to new locations easier and more enjoyable!) for $199.00, ouch
But it says it is a 10 Disk set for US and Canada. Mine 03 was pretty up to date. I never had an occurance where something had moved, but I live in California any maybe ours is updated more frequently? I did find that sometimes the Nav got lost and send me in the wrong direction (fortunatly I pretty much new it was wrong and went on instinct) but the computer would soon realize the problem and re-adjust. Over all I wouldn't want to order one with out it.
