Question Another clutch problem

95 ranger with the 2.3 and the 5 speed manual trans.
Does anyone know if the clutch pedal rod that pushes into the master cylinder is supposed to lock into it(rod engage into the master cylinder that is)? Mine just wobbles around freely and the first 3-4 inches of depressing the pedal does not disengage the clutch. I saw a little fluid leaking from the master cylinder, but I replaced the slave first and the clutch is still like new. I replaced the disc, pressure plate, pilot bearing, flywheel resurfaced,etc. about 70,000 ago. The first clutch lasted 200,000 miles. The truck now (not the engine) has 280,000 on it and this is the first time the slave cylinder has been replaced. I can only see the slave moving about 3/8 of an inch through the bellhousing access hole.
So I basically have 2 questions;
1.I was told the rod should lock in by the dealer, so is my master damaged?
2.After 280,000 could it be my master cylinder?

Hey! Thanks 4 the replies! (being sarcastic). Nevermind, I figured it out. It was my master cylinder. Went to the ford dealer today and bought one for $115.30 It came with a new clutch rod too! The rod does snap into the master! Clutch works puuurfect now! Thanks for all the help! Really really appreciate it! (sarcastic again). Late!
