Driving with battery light on
T.
I had the light come on one time a few miles from home. Fearing the worst, I went home right away. I removed the battery cables and cleaned the battery and cables. Started it up afterwards and the light was off. The cables and battery posts didn't look bad at all in terms of corrosion. The light hasn't been on since (over 3 years now). That was the only thing I did so I assume the cleaning fixed the problem. Either that or it just happened to go away on its own at the same time I did the cleaning. Another thing to consider is a short or some other failure in the light circuit.
Check the belt tensioner.
Check the harness on the back of the alternator for a kinked or bad connection. Not that this will be an easy job on an Aerostar for lack of room.
Make sure all the fuse links on the relay (driver's side) are okay.
