I was just wondering what Lawn Tractor ya'll have and what the best one's are. I have an older "89" JD diesel. Great piece of equipment but a little on the costly side. Never realy have donne much work to it other then PM.
2 years ago bought a Poulan Weedeater brand lawn tractor with a 14.5 horse Briggs on it at Lowes for 1g tax included and a bagger, sidewalk sale, no probs yet. Got a Ford 3000 diesel for the big stuff.;-)
We have a Ford 641 Workmaster and a finish mower on the pto. It does a good job when it is working - I need to do a restoration on it for the summer.

There is only one. A Case/Ingersoll. Air cooled gasoline engine-- simple and CHEAP to maintain/repair. Hydrostatic drive, Hydraulic lift, Hydraulic PTO, class 1 three point hitch or sleeve hitch optional. Built like a brick outhouse. Full range of implements -- blade, snow blower, mowing deck, lawn sweeper, dump cart, vacuum, log splitter, brush chipper, garden tiller. The last 4 items are driven by the hydraulic PTO so you only have 1 engine to drive thos 4 things. So you have 1 tractor that runs all the time and is maintained better rather than trying to keep 5 different engines in good tune with fresh gas etc.
Mine was built in 79 and I still run it every day. It has a single cylinder cast iron Kohler motor. It just keeps going and going and going.....
We have a new (well 1999) Wizard 20hp Garden tractor with a High/Low gearbox. I have a plow and harrows and the cutting/mowing deck for it. Gonna get a box scrape and a Cultivator soon.
I got one of those Dixon zero turning radius mowers.Best thing since sliced bread.Bought it used for $175 thought it mowed great.Used it 2-3 times then discovered the blade was backwards!{has one 36 inch blade}Thing really mows now!
my grandpa restores old tractors. we have two 60s (I think) Sears tractors and a 65 statesman. we also have a 90's statesman, a 90s John Deere and another one, I forget what it is.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 19-Mar-02 AT 09:26 PM (EST)]JD LT155. I guess I'm on the smaller and cheaper end here. Great tractor so far, have used it for two years without a single problem. I've added a switch for the lights and an ammeter (ya just can't have a piece of equipment without guages ). Last one was a Lawn General made by MTD. Huge piece of crap, about the only thing that didn't break or wear out early in the three years I owned it was the B&S 14.5 hp engine.
I have been mowing commercial properties for a living for seven years. I have two dixon mowers, a 5502 w/a 50 inch deck and a 5601 w/a sixty inch deck. Reliability and speed being a big issue for me I wouldnt use anything else. Every individual part on these mowers can be replaced if need be. Most residential mowers are built on the basis that the average homeowner will use them for a couple of hours per week and are designed as such. If I were going to purchase a new mower just to mow my yard I would buy a new 50 inch deck dixon they are virtually indestructible easy to service and cut your mowing and weedeating time. Believe me if you ever use a ztr mower you will never want one with a steering wheel. PS they run about $6000.00 but you will never have to buy another mower.
