coolant temperature location?

coolant temperature location?
I need to figure which hole my EEC-IV coolant temp. sensor goes:

My '84 had the sensor in the hole with the yellow arrow. It didn't have any type of fitting for the red arrow. it just had a dimple, and I don't remember it having a ported vacuum switch...
However, I saw another truck with this exact setup in the junkyard, pipe plug, and everything. Does the sensor go someplace else in the head, because the sensor plug won't reach to either of those fittings.
btw, I am not talking about the sensor for the dash gauges.. I know it goes in the passenger side of the back of the block..
