I have a 2003 250 with the 5.4 and 4.10 rear. I will pull a 5th wheel every so often and it has a pin weight of 1400 lbs. I want to add some suspension to bring the rear back up. It does not have the factory helper springs and the trailer place mounted the bracket for the hitch right over the front factory holes for them. I was told by some to use coil over shocks and some to use the air bags. I will not tow often, once or twice a year and am looking for the best econimical solution. Any advise is appreciated.
I wouldn't use coil over shocks unless you want a poor ride the whole time your unloaded. Air Bags are a good option. How long do you plan to keep truck. The air lines usually leak once they get older, probably not an issue. Hellwig has a progressive helper spring kit which would ride good unloaded & help when loaded. No air to mess with, again not a big deal. Hellwig doesn't mount like factory & is easy to install. Here's full time helper springs: http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/P...odelId-1001283
good luck.
Don't know what your hitch looks like ,drill through it and add the factory helpers. If you can
Make sure you use grade 8 bolts and nuts.but also follow the hitch makers precautions they may not alow any drilling
