I got a fuel injected 302 out of an 87 grand marquis with stock roller cam, now in bronco II with edelbrook dual plane aluminum intake, holley truck avenger 670 carb, cleaned up heads with valva job and shaved .010, stock cam, 120-125 compression on all cylinders, long runner headers with nothing after, msd ignition 6 with msd high voltage coil, stock vacuum advance dizzy. power is transmitted through a c4 transmission, 3.73 gears with 31inch tires. My problem is this engine feels very weak, stalls out when i stomp it, when i put it in first gear and power brake it it take forever to get up to 5 grand and will not go higher.
First double check the air fuel ratio, by reading the plugs. It may be way too rich, or way too lean. You may need to re-jet and otherwise tune the carb to the application. Check the ignition timing and make sure it's up around 10-12* initial. Hopefully the cam isn't installed retarded or anything.
This cam is the stock cam, and it's roller tappet cam? AFAIK, the 87 Crown Vic motors used flat tappets, but you never know. The 87 pass car motors I've seen into the valley of, didn't have the retaining "spider" for roller tappets.
The 87 Crown Vic EFI motor only made about 160 HP, and the re-use of the stock cam will not allow much more, even with the other mods. These stock cams are very wimpy in terms of lift and duration. The Mustang HO roller cam would be a much better choice, and it makes excellant low end tourqe. The air flow of E6 heads limit max HP to the low 200's, regardless of cam, intake/carberation, or exaust mods, but they should make decent tourqe of around 300ft-lbs. 5,000 RPM is about the limit of the E6 heads. Then there's at least a 15-20% loss through the automatic tranny.
