Lojack--expect $500 to 650.

Then, you have to pay $100 or so per year for the service.

Dealer sets price on Lojack--I called and asked.

I like the exploding car idea too. Just like on Mad Max.

Another idea is to "become" a rapper, and start travelling with an entourage and body guards. Have one stay with your car at all times.

Heck, why not have a chauffeured limo? The driver stays with the car all the time.

In 1990 we were having our van broke into in our driveway and the theif was looting the thing. I got tired of that in a hurry and bought and installed a "silent" alarm that paged me in my bedroom. 30 days after installing it my alarm went off at 4: AM. I jacked a round of #4 buck into my 3"Mag and met the SOB in the driveway... after a stern warning the SOB broke and ran...he shouldn't of done it. Scratch one car looter! It is legal here to shoot anyone on your property at NIGHT that is stealing ANYTHING...
We had no more problems after that. It either was the same SOB that broke into the van 5 times or the WORD got out!
Get one of those silent pagers, if your state won't let you shoot the *******s then take a baseball bat to the meeting!
One of the guys here in town had a similiar pager and one night it went off and he looked out the window and there were 2 SOB's in his car. He was on the 2ed floor of an apartment house. He opened the window and shouted a warning... The SOB's jumped out and started to run.. He got em both. The DA didn't like that so much and tried to get him charged but the GRAND JURY nobilled him. Between us and a couple more, car breakins have slowed waaaay down in these parts.

Use some drag racers technology. Install a line lock on the front brakes.
Leave the steering fully cranked to the right, line lock on and a starter-disable type alarm and a club. That'll keep them busy no matter how they plan on stealing it!!!

It holds pressure on the front brakes so you don't have brakes interfering with your burnout. My concern would be battery drain. There is a device called a Mico Lock, which does the same thing, but doesn't have the draw, and it puts pressure to all four brakes, except maybe on an abs system. Had one on an old 77, set all the brakes for parking, rather than just the rear. They were used mostly on service type trucks, and was an after market add on.

EDIT: I found a link for Mico, and it does cover ABS systems too. http://www.mico.com/literature/blocks.php3

The mico switch type lock is the only thing that will prevent a tow. For you new truck folks, most of them have transponders in the keys that make it impossible to start without the right key. For the older trucks, have an alarm, dog and BigJim M installed.

Thought about this when my truck got broke into. Mount video camera's behind two way mirrors on the sides and have it sent wirelessly into a video recorder in your home. Any problems give the police a copy of the tape, but then again you would have to have a police departmet in your city that gives a damn.

Get a Denver Boot, the cops lock it to you front wheel when you dont pay your parking tickets, just lock it on your front wheel. They will think the cops have allready been there and move on to the next car.

As long as your thieves down there obey the gun laws, (and I'm sure those honorable fellows will) no worries.

Keep the veh as close to where you sleep as possible. preferable inside a garage or a car-hauler. put on the loudest audable alarm you can find, and also put on a silent alarm that goes to a pager. Invest in a large bore handgun (I carry a .45 loaded with hollowpoints, and get a Lo-Jack installed. The lo-jack wont prevent the vehicle from being stolen, but it will increase the chances of you getting it back, hopefully before to much dmaage has been incurred.
Jimmy Dean, I agree that most vehicles now days are being towed or hauled> It's faster and easier plus a little less noticable. I mean people just think your having your truck worked on or repoed. Another thing I do to help prevent this is to lock in the transfer case. Hard to lift both ends of the truck at the same time.

> The mico switch type lock is the only thing that will prevent a tow

I have seen wreckers, with a winch, pull a tandem axle tractor right across a parking lot and onto a sling when the brakes were stuck from the valve being frozen. I have a 4 wheel brake lock (with key) from brakelock.com that works great. So, I think to prevent a vehicle from being stolen, as well as you can, you should

1) install a keyed 4 wheel brake lock

2) install a lo-jack system (do not advertise it with a sticker). If they tow or steal the car you want them to think the alarm you installed is the only one.

3) alarm with remote pager separate from the lo-jack tracker with a motion sensor

4) chain down your hood!

5) get under your vehicle and install metal plates to prevent people from reaching in and cutting your battery cables. Some theives will just cut every harness they can see hoping to disable the alarm.

6) install a club. It is a visible and deters the causal thief.

7) a kill switch that lets the vehicle run for 60 seconds in case you get car jacked

8) wheel locks

9) Mark all major components including glass with the VIN number.

10) Make the dash look like the radio has been removed and buthered with wires hanging out. In my truck it is easy because that is the way it is
