I have a 1980 F-100 with the 300 in-line and 4 speed NP transmission. I want to put a small block and car 4-speed in it. Will the car 4 speed mount up to all the mounting hardware that the NP has and will the linkage from a car line up with the truck port for the linkage ? Also what trouble will I have when dropping in the small block. I know I have plenty of room , but what about the harness and motor mounts ?
Thanks !
I couldn't tell you about a 4sp but I swapped in a t-5 borg warner mustang tranny into a 80 f100 in the past. It was an easy swap, the only problem was 1. I had to fabricate a fulcrim for the clutch arm. The mustang uses a cable system for a clutch and I used the stock linkage system. I just had to weld a piece of aluminum to the belhousing to act as a fulcrim for the arm.
#2 the shifter for the T-5 was back pretty far. It was positioned about 3 inches from the bench seat (with the seat in the full back position) . Would work fine with buckets or with a different style seat with the cut out where the shifter would be.
#3 I had a stock 3sp on the tree tranny and all I had to do was turn the crossmember around for the tranny to fit!
