Tranny Problem
Hi,
I have a 91 Explorer, 4.0L, and I seem to have a leaking problem with the tranny.
It does not leak constantly only under heavy load, when its hot, like towing long distances, or driving up to ski lodges in the mountains.
The fluid pours out where the tranny meets the engine, where it seems a metal plate spacer is.
I took it to the auto guy he changed a relief valve of some sort and put a hose running up into the engine compartment,didn't work.
Anyones help would be greatly appreciated I hope it is a small fix.

I had the same problem with an 87 Aerostar. It is the front pump seal. The seal is cheap but you have to take the tranny out to change it. Have fun!!!!!
The tranny in the Aerostar is the same A4LD as in the Explorer.
