300 straight 6 stalling problem when cold
I have a 1986 F150 with the 300 straight 6. It has 41,000 original miles on it. I recnetly had to have the exhaust gasket replaced and it ran great for a while. Now I am having a stalling problem when the engine is cold. I live outside Atlanta, GA so I am not talking cold weather cold just cold as in hasn't run for 6 or more hours. The choke will engage and the idle will be high. If I tap the gas to disengage the choke the engine almost stalls - I have to flutter the gas pedal to keep it running and then hold in a bit of gas. I will drive off and get to a stop sign of stop in traffic and it will stall out if I don't hold the gas in. It seems like the choke needs to stay on longer but if I try to leave it engaged the idle gets so high that I can drive along at 40mph without touching the pas pedal.
Anybody have this experience? What should I look for first?
