im gunna also install my crane power max cam if its in good shape (has about 15K so i hope so)...

The header install isn't hard, it's all the other stuff you have do to get stuff to go around them. They are worth the effort and will be much easier to add with the engine out.

The alternator bracket must be trimmed (there are pics in my gallery), but the bracket must also be spaced out from the engine about 1/2" or the tube will hit the alternator itself through the notch in the bracket. I think I bought some 1/2" nuts and put them between the bracket and block. IIRC the stock bolts were still long enough. The stock belt fit fine.

You will lose the EGR tube. A muffler shop could probably weld a fitting to the tube for you to retain it. It doesn't change power one way or the other, but you will lose some mileage without it. The part throttle resistance to detonation will also be compromised. My new engine will be about 10.2:1 compression with a stock cam, so I'll have to run EGR with it unless I can tune the PCM around it. You may be in the same boat. I think what I will do is use the AIR ports in the head for the new EGR tube, but all engines don't have these. I'll block off the front 5 and use the rear one to feed the EGR. I think that's all to get them on.

The gasket for these is a metallic looking laminated gasket. One gasket is too thin and the welds on the header flange will cut through it and make it leak. I am not a fan of double gaskets, but that is the easiest solution. I tried it with one and it lasted about 6 months before they started leaking. I redid it with two gaskets and this month marks 5 years with no problems. I also use copper collector gaskets. I used paper for a year or two, but they needed replaced every month or two. The copper gaskets were $10 and have lasted ever since. I retorque the collector bolts about once a year for good measure.

You shouldn't have any problems with the cam as long as you keep the lifters in order. They need to be installed on the same lobe they came off of.

awsome, thanks for the help. sadly im doing the engine swap in my rebuild class and the teacher doesnt allow us to install headers because of the risk or leaks and such so they will have to wait.

also the cam i have has more lift than stock and according to my teachers they said the EGR isnt really needed because the lift (i think) will help if the EGR isnt hooked up.

also all 300s EXCEPT ones that were bolted to an E4OD have AIR injection in the head.
