I just tried that and the dang thing broke off in my hand. What now? methinks I'm in deep trouble here and am getting desperate. I have a parts truck here as well but don't want to risk breaking it off too. Any guidance would be most welcome.
Thanks.
All right I give up ? First you have to take the WHAT???
1st you have to undo the nut, then get a steering wheel puller and pull off the steering wheel, you will then have access to the turn signal switch.
OOPS, meant to fill that in later. I have the wheel pulled and the switch is there, but to release it you first have to take the switch lever off. That is what has caused my grief. Short of finding another complete setup, I'm stuck and stuff like that is hard to find around here.
Yep, remove the signal lever - it threads in like a bolt. Then remove the screws in the switch and gently pull it up. Make sure there is slack in the wiring harness at the base of the column because the harness needs to slide up the column as you raise the switch.

Yep, threads in like a bolt, but also seized up like a bolt that hasn't been touched for 25+ years. Which is why I ended up with mine broken off in my hand. I swear it felt like it was turning out. DOH! I have the one on my parts truck soaking in Moovit (strong penetrant) right now in the hopes that it will be removed in a more successful fashion.
Did the turn signal lever handle break off inside the housing of the switch? If so and you cannot get the broken piece out you will have to replace the switch. You will have to disconnect the wiring on the bottom side of the column and then take a good picture off the way the order of the wire's are in the connector because you will have to remove the wire's from the connector to get the switch completely out of the column. Don't forget to undo the wire for the gear selector.
