Arrow Help please.

I recently bought a 1973 Ford F250. Put in a 429 V8 (rebuilt and painted block blue), that was taken out of a 1969 Mach1. Added 12.5:1 TRW pistons,Erson 1.73 roller rockers,Edlebrock 460 streetmasters intake manifold,Holly 850 2xBrrl carb,Hooker headers,"Cherry bomb" glass packed straight pipes,and it has a "mild" cam. The transmission is a Ford S-95 automatic(rebuilt).

This week I am adding a complete MSD ignition system and a good performance air filter set up. Within the next couple of months I also plan on adding an aluminum radiator, silicon hoses,180 degree stat, dual electric fans, transmission cooler, oil cooler, and a good performance starter. But , before I go any further on the engine and the rest of the truck itself , I need to upgrade my brakes. I have discs up front and drums in the rear. Can anybody please point me in the right direction as far as good brake upgrade packages,etc...website?brand? Also , any tips or advice on things to do to my truck I am all ears.

Thanks,

Rob

You can get a good rear disk brake package from:

http://members.aol.com/blackbirdstrucks/index.html

You should have a Dana 60 in the rear. Going to disk all the way around makes a HUGE difference. Their package has everything you'll need except for the porportioning valve for the master cylinder which is critical you don't overlook.

I've never heard of an S-95???

Check out the tech articles section of this website. I think there's a brake upgrade article in there.

He means your F250 came from the factory with a Dana 60 - so you're all set there. As far as gears, what are your driving plans? tire size? cam rpm range?

I've never heard of a S-95 either, where did it come from?

Um...........you really have no idea what you are doing, do you? My best advice is to read, read, search, and read some more the threads within FTE. That should yield any pertinent advice that you could use.

I'm not a racer, so I'm no good at the details. But I do know you need to decide some basic things before you buy/change anything. Are you planning top end speed or 1/4 mile? What is a S-95 tranny, is it an overdrive? if so, what is the overdrive ratio? Pick some tires so you know how tall they will be. The tire size, cam rpm range, drive style and trans ratio directly affect what rear gears you need.

You may want to check out the 429/460 forum, lots of guys that build these motors hang there...

My $0.02, but drum brakes are all not that bad when they're in good working condition. Money is better spend firming up the steering and suspension.

I bought a set of blackbird rear disc brake setup and really like them.
Made sure the steering is good and tight. I have bought steering shaft from www.borgeson.com/products.htm, and had my gear box rebuilt at http://www.galaxyhighperformance.com/.
