Wanna fly?

If you are interested in flying, but not quite sure, the Cessna website has a form to fill out so you can take a flight with an instructor for $49. I did this and it was a blast. Basically flew the plane the whole time, from takeoff to landing. Now if I only had the money for the whole flight school....

That would be great, but I know myself just a little too well. I wouldn't be be satisfied until I had IFR, multi-engine, rotorcraft, lighter-than-air, seaplane..... etc. I just know I'd end up spending a small (or rather large) fortune. It is rather intriguing, though.

I believe he is referring to the new license perfect for part timers, just done recently to allow hobbyist the ability to fly without the red tape. Sport pilot license, that's the name...

hey tiger dan would love to!! next time i am in CA i will have to look you up and we can see what we can do. were abouts in CA? and pikachu it is tough to stop with out all of that stuff. i got all of that through school but for a normal pilot that just wants to fly friends around or possible cross countries just a private and IFR would do!! multi is just too expensive and unless you own one noone will let you rent one.

on edit: yep that is the one the sport pilots is about half the price and allows you to fly a 4 seater. which is usally enough for the average pilot.

You can say that again..Im never satisfied.....7100 hours, all the licenses through Airline Transport Pilot and 2 type ratings (Saab 340 turboprop and EMB-145 Regional Jet) and every flight is still a blast. Addictive is an understatement....Flying becomes a part of you more than you can possible imagine, but thats not a bad thing.

I will say that the seat in my 2004 F-150 Supercab FX-4 is better than that in the jet though. The view from the plane and 600 MPH accross the ground more than compensates though.

Let's see... Saabs and Embryos..... What airline? NWA/Continental? American? Those are the two that come to mind that use both of those planes.

I'd love to fly one of the whisper jets like United is using. Those are just "plane" cool looking, high-wing quad turbofan. Must be a real trip to fly.

I have never piloted a plane but would love to try, may do it sometime. On my trip to So Cal last Nov. I was a passenger on Embrier 145's and Boeing 767's, both awesome aircraft from this passenger's point of view. I was impressed with the professionalism and punctuality diplayed by Continental.

I was in the aviation business for many years. Started by instructing, and have flown most private type planes including twins. Was a corporate pilot in a twin for several years. I've also built some homebuilts. Was signed off for the A&P, but didn't take advantage of it. Had some jet and rotor time, but never got rated for them

Flying around here is a big problem with all the TSA security stuff. The airport 2 miles up the road is almost a ghost town from what it was before 9-11.

I used the Cessna program to take my daughter up in a 172, been years since I had been up, but this time I got to fly, it was awesome!! My daughter is hooked now too. Nice thing too, is it was a student that was working towards his commercial license that took us up, and it counts for him for flight time to get his commercial, so it helped him out too.

Ok, under the new Sport Pilot license, do airplanes like the Cessna 150, 72, 82 qualify as standard or primary catagory aircraft or is it just limited to experimental types that you can build or buy? Flying a gyro with a VW motor seems kind of scary, but I'd like a 172. I've found a list of the experimental manufacterers that qualify, but couldn't find Cessna listed anywhere.

Does L10-11 simulator time count? My dad retired from the used to be big "D"
and sometimes I'd goto work with him and get some sim time in. Wind sheer, engine fire and no hydro and a dash blinking like a christmas tree in a sim will make ya good and sick

What's involved with the new sport pilots license? Sound like a good way to get started.

jharvey3 it is just like getting your private licence just takes about half the time 20-30 hours compared to 40-50 for private. you don't need to get a medical exam every two to three years like you do if you have your private, you drivers licence works as your medical. you are limited on the aircraft you can fly any non-high performance(180 hp) four seat or less aircraft works like the 152 or 172 and some pipers. you are limted on how far you can fly at night i belive but i am not sure i will have to look at the new regulations, but for the average person that gets their private licence it is perfect. most people that get their private licence just use it to take friends and family up for sightseeing and for that it is perfect. but if you are like pikachu then it is not the way to go, if you plan on getting more ratings and licences then get your private.

so howdy, yes you can fly the 72 and 52 but not a 82 becuase it is high performance.
