5.8 surges when cold

5.8 surges when cold

Any guesses? The truck starts and runs great but for a minute or two right after starting (when engine is cold) that the engine surges and slows down. it repeats this over and over again at about 5 second intervals. once it is good and warm it stops doing this.

I just bought it and don't know the history too well. It has 122k on it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

sounds as though your idle air control (IAC) is malfunctioning and that is causing the surging, if it isn't that it's your throttle position sensor (TPS) , go to a wrecker and get a few and try them.
