What cfm carb?

I have a 460 bored .040 over that i just had rebuilt.... It doesnt seem to have much power until about 2,000 rpm. I have a feeling that the edelbrock 600 cfm edelbrock isnt doing much until the secondaries open up.. even then its not doing much. What cfm should i go with. 700???

It sounds like I have something close to what you have. I use the 770 Street Avenger..... the truck never knows when to quit....

Womp on it at 65 and the truck wants to dance....while all the ricers are starting to wheeze. Plenty of low end punch too....

Nothing major in the engine - just interceptor heads, mallory dizzy w/ gnarly Lunati cam and balanced / blueprinted / milled / engine internals etc etc etc.....

Talking What is your ignition timing set at???

The stock distributor has a very lazy advance curve rate.

Try this link for some guidance to curve the stock dizzy: http://www.reincarnation-automotive....ons_index.html

A 600 edelbrock carb on a 460 will be lean as it is jetted for a smaller combo. The recurve and a larger carb like a 670 avenger or holley 750 vac sec will help too.

Hope this helps some.

For a warmed up 460 I always recomend a 750cfm. Depending on the build, you can go bigger. I for example, run a 970cfm holley hp. A couple of other tips are go with an early timing gear set, and re-curve your dizzy like the mad porter suggested. If your dizzy is in need of a rebuild I'd suggest you just buy one from reincarnation auto, as Scott will custom curve it for your application. Scott does top notch work at affordable prices. I run his heads too and he's the man

I have a eldlebrock 750 on mine and it runs great. I don't have to open the secondaries to make the truck run, but when I do (and unfortunately I do often, love the sound and kick in the butt) the engine really comes to life. I went the easy route with a vacuum sec., single feed, and electric choke.

Who did the rebuild? Was the stock timing set used from a kit for that year? Or a aftermarket set, set straight up, or a pre 72? An aftermarket set straight, revived my 78 and it really seamed to jump right off idle. I do have a 750 holly also. Just a thought.

I just gutted all the smog off of my 79 460 and put a Holley 750 VS dual feed carb and it runs awesome.
