I pulled the boss's superchip out of his wrecked dually before it got towed. I have guages installed so i thought i would try the chip to see what the difference is.Do i just plugg it into the compter and that is it. Or do you have to do to something else any help would be appreciated.( I am not the one that took it out so I dont know where the computer even is, it is behind the glove box?)
I have the pcm i think how do you get it out there is three screws thru a wiring block from the engine compartment that looks like it goes int the pcm but it is loose now even though they are in so how do you disconnect it any help would help it is gewttin dark and my truck is in the driveway
If your bosses PCM code and your are not the same, or at least compatible, you may be wasting your time.
The PCM harness at the firewall has a single 10mm bolt holding it on. There are two or sometimes three smaller (7 or 8 mm) bolts holding the plastic cover on in the cab. After all those are out you just have to pull. It can be a PITA as there is a lip on the front of the cover that must be overcome.

Also - if you've never had a chip in your truck - there's a bit of a process to clean the board that the chip plugs into. It's coverd with some clear coat kinda stuff. And you gotta make sure you get it all off otherwise it can do werid things to your truck!!
i never thought about the codes not being the same. I just wanted something for nothing. I dont htink there is anyway to check the codes is there I looked over the chip and there is no codes or anything stamped on it. So i guess there is no way to tell without trying? I am just getting anxous to get a chip or a tuner I think the predator is the way to go but this was free maybe I had better wait for the predator. I noticed there was three bolts on the wire harness that was a big question kinda hard to get at feeding your arm down there. I will wait tommorrow morning maybe get some more opinions if it is worth the chance to see if it will work. If it will not be right then i wont do it dont want some kinda maybe deal i guess dont want to screw anything up.I was all qwound up with that chip in my hand
You won't be able to identify the chip's code unless you gan get to the PCM of the other truck. You can get that chip reburned to your trucks code through any Superchips dealer. Reprogramming fee's generally only run $25-$75.
Again, the PCM harness only has one bolt holding it on. If you see three you're looking at the wrong harness.
well i think i will pull it out in the morming and give it a try if dont run right i will go get it reburned because i will have the code off of my pcm so there is no wasted motion i have to get to it to get the code for the reburn anyway might as well try it . I wont hyrt anything right as far as the pcm or anything if it is the wrong code?

Maybe. Open the drivers door and look on the A-pillar. If there is still a white sticker there with a 4 digit code on it you wouldn't have to pull the PCM. Mine peeled off after about 1.5 years, so yours is probably gone too, but at least you know where to look.
Don't know if it the same as yours, but on my 97, fuse #9 under the hood is the pcm power. Real easy on the older style Fords to remove the PCM. I remove most of the screws holding the plastic fender liner and pull the pcm through the fenderwell after removing the wire harness (10mm socket) and the 2 nuts holding the PCM in place (I believe they are 10mm as well). Your calibration code should be on a sticker on the PCM if not on the pillar. If you take your PCM into a superchips dealer who has the capability to reburn chips he should be able to get your code out of your PCM if both stickers are missing.
Good luck
Mike
