If the splines get cut into it when it is bolted together, them more than likely the original went on the same way. Soak in WD40 for a couple of bays, then carefully without damaging any of the splines or threads, tap it off with a hammer.
I ussually disconnect the master and get it out of the way. Then just grab the lever with some vise grips and strat working it, they ussually come right off. Most of them are loose to start with.

I had to use a Crowbar and some MAJOR muscle power to break the damn thing loose!
After I put the new lever on, I STILL have a LOW pedal. I'm gonna try and "cheat" the system abit and reset the lever about 1/2" to get it CLOSER to engaging the clutch. We'll see where that gets me....
