I recently purchased a new F150 xlt Supercrew 4X4. After I took delivery from the dealer, I noticed a door ding in the upper rear door. I contacted my salesperson and was told that he would take care of it(very cooperative). After further inspection at the dealership, the dent happened during the build as the dent is pushed out rather than in. They think a screw or something made the ding. The paint is not craked and the dealership said that they cant fix it with the dentless tools as the dent is protruding. The service manager said he would fix it but that they would have to strip the factory finish to fix it. He asked how much the ding bothers me as he stated the repair will never be as good as factory. I considered putting some molding or something over it but I think it is to high on the door. The dent is not very visible unless the light hits it just right, but it is still there!! What do you think I should do? I put a picture in my gallery of a diffierent truck but put a yellow dot where the dent is at.
Honestly, if it were my truck I'd get it fixed. I had taken delivery of my XLT Screw a couple weeks ago and got home only to find a 3 inch gouge in my rear bumper black molding. I called the salesrep immediately and made plans to have it replaced. At the same time I had them Line-x the bed so it was worth the trip back. If I never fixed it, I would know it was there every time I washed or looked at it and it would drive me nuts.
Even though it might not turn out to be factory perfect, I'd have the work done for piece of mind. Sounds to me like they just don't want to do the work! They could always replace the door too!
I had a similar problem with my 2003 F150 King Ranch. When I brought the truck home, I noticed a scratch in the front driver's door just below the window. Took it back to the dealer, they sent it to a body shop they do business with where it was repaired perfectly. There is no reason that the ding cannot be repaired and the paint matched correctly, it's a brand new truck with no fading. Seems to me the dealer told you it won't be factory 'cause they don't want to be bothered fixing it. And, you'll never get Ford to agree to send a whole new door, just won't happen!! By the way, lots of brand new cars are damaged when they are shipped, the shipping company or the dealer will fix them long before they get on the lot, so don't worry about it.
I would get it fixed as well. There's no reason they should have a problem fixing it to make it look as good as factory. Just make sure they are going to gaurantee the work incase you have future problems with the area that gets redone.
I would seriously have a dent removal company look at before the paint option.I just had a small ding removed about 5" below my driver door handle. I watched him do the repair, and at one point it seemed he pushed it OUT too far, so he used a sort of blunted screw driver and tapped it back.It came out perfectly! I dont see why the same thing cant be done to yours. I wouldnt live w/ it on a brand new truck.
you should ask for a factory painted door then since they admitted it wont look factory when they redo it
I second this motion and repeat it. They already said it won't look factory new. Thus if you let them go that route, it'll still bug you for years to come. It's a new truck and deserves a brand new look. Hold out for a new door and use their own words to justify it.

Just to let you guys know, once you drive the vehicle off the lot its yours, they dont really have to do anything. (period)
Now, if you walked around the vehicle BEFORE you drove it off the lot, then yes they would have to fix it. People dont realize that, and its hard to belive but its true.

This may be true, however any dealer that takes that approach and says "sorry" is really not going to get much in the way of repeat business. I had this happen also on my old '98 Contour where there was over spray or some crud on the rear quarter. They took it for a day and attempted to clean it up. It never really did come out okay but they tried.
I had a ding in my passenger door. Had someone come out and do a paintless fix also. He did get it out kinda far, but a few light taps with a plastic punch did the trick. After he was done I found out he is the same guy that my dealership uses. Now that it is done, you cant even tell it was there. Cost=$60
I would definately get a factory ecoated door. I had a Chevy (sorry for using a 5 letter word) S10 when I was 17. When it was delivered to the dealer, a hydrolic hose on the freight trailer ruptured and the passenger door had to be repainted. After a few months the paint faded and hazed...looked terrible. Ecoat is definately the best.
