V10 tachometer

I need to know what my engine is doing and the factory didn't install a tach.

Anyone know how/where to get a tach for the V10, 1999 E350? I see TONS of stuff for the "F" line of vehicles, but us "E'rs" are left out in the cold (does anyone feel sorry?).

Thanks for the help.

I bought a regular Autometer tach and sent it to autometer to recalibrate the gauge for a V-10.

Summit and Jegs both have versions that do ten cylinders

All Fords have a tach signal in the dash area

You mean that I can buy a tach at Jegs and just plug it in?

Ya, where does it plug in? I looked at the link FREDVON, and couldn't find anything pertinent.

ClevelandJim,

I have a E450 and I spoke to Autometer about their tach. They said they had problems with the V10 and engines with coil on plug igniton. They said calibrating it to function righ was a problem. Seems like on their web site they addressed the coil on plug issue regardomg their tachs. How long ago did you do yours? I last checked wtih Autometer a year ago. What kind of job was it to hook up and where did you connect to?

Thanks

KL

Sorry that link sucks I am not good at posting these urls and links
Go to that link. Click on "Table of Contents" link
Under appendix there is a "electrical wiring" link
Partial info:
Super Duty F-Series vehicles are equipped with a
clean tachometer output (CTO) wiring tap. The tap
is designated circuit 76 (LG/WH) and is located
under dash near the parking brake pedal. See
Figure A, page 199. This tap should be used if a
tachometer signal is required. The signal is digital
and requires a digital tachometer. The signal pulse
rate is half the number of engine cylinders per
revolution (i.e., 4 for 5.4L, 7.3L Diesel and 5 for
6.8L).
