I want to install a remote starter on my 6.0l diesel. Ford's website lists a power code - Remote Start part number 2W7Z-19G364-CA. This does not show any wires in the picture. Has anyone installed this? Is it a module that just needs to be plugged? Any information on this would be great. Thanks
I had the Ford Gold remote installed on my X by the dealer...
It works FINE and is used multiple times a day...
both for start up... and in the case of long trips... turbo cool down
also has many features I rarely use
but it was WELL worth it for me to get my big black X cooled !!!
there are aftermarket starters that work on the diesel... all it needs is a short delay to allow the glow plugs to warm up ....
To add to what was stated above there ARE wires that need to be connected... FWIW I had the ford system installed at dealer>>>the install cost was cheap in the grand scheme of things...
Just make sure that if you have a Remote Starter installed ask if the installers are MECP Certified Installers, and if they are going to install the Glowplug Timer. There is a wire on most middle to high end starters that will run to the dash and when will not allow the starter to kick over until the glow plug light goes out on the dash. This is crutial to having your glow plug life last. Also the MECP Certified installer is simply a higher level of training for electronic installers.
Its basically like being abel to be lic to be a mechanic. There is a lot of training that the MECP certifiaction goes through. But this still doesnt mean that the tech will do a good job but the likely hood is much higher. All my techs were MECP Cert First Class Installers which is one level bellow a Master Installer. http://www.ce.org/certifications/mecp/default.asp this will give you more info on this training.
PS If you want to do this yourself I can email you the wire codes for your rig, but you still want to test each wire to confirm as the white sheets sometimes make mistakes as lunch breaks and new shifts can change things sometimes.
I (MECP First Class) installed my clifford/viper on my 03F350 and it was straight foward. You can grab the wait to start off the glow plug dash light. Or if you are in a state that it doesnt get VERY cold then i would recommend just change the wait to start delay time. I raised mine to 3.5sec and buy that time the plugs are ready. Not all remote starts have this feature.
I have a 2004 f250 king ranch 6.0 psd and have a crime stopper unit installed the day i brought it home and i love it. It has a 20 second delay so the glow plugs can warm and it also has a turbo cool down mode..
Wow - I'd have walked out to the truck and around the block by then....
Think that might be a BIT of overkill there
MOST of the time if I haven't remote started mine, I'll just jump in a start it right up like a gasser... course I'm in Texas and it starts right up...
This might be a stupid question, but are there any "on-line" stores that carry middle to "top of the line" remote starters with engine cool down mode? Do you guys recommend a specific site to purchase? Motorhaven....please step forward!!
This might sound stupid, but I thought that glow plugs had become a thing of the past, and the new diesels got around the need for them by timing the injection of fuel at the cold start so that it was injected at a higher point in the compression ratio. (Once running, the computer re-times the injection to the normal operating point)
Since at start-up the fuel is injected later in the compression cycle, the compressed air is more compressed, so there's a higher temp in the cylinder and no need for glow plugs. From all the talk here, it sounds like there are still glow plugs in the 6.0 diesels?
Oh no, that's not it !!! I'm answering so that means I'm !?!<@!@:!@:
6-oh still has glow plugs but I RARELY wait on my glow plugs... guess I'm too impatient and when I jump in it's insert key and turn - all in one motion and it's idle is purring (or growling ) in less than a 1 second....
Thanks for all the info. I will have it installed but my father keeps insisting that he is going to install it himself on his 7.3l. He bought a remote starter for my mother and it still sits in the box. While my wife loves her remote starter that I had installed for her for x-mas. I did not know about the MECP cert. I will keep that in mind.
