Ok, well, here's a run down of the hell that i call my 1984 F-150 w/ 302 @bbl. I have a no start situation when i turn the key. It just sits there, i hear a click but the starter wont turn over. So i have to get out and take a jumper wire from the positive of the battery, to the S terminal on the solenoid. That method works every time. But, i STILL CANNOT get the switch to work ! Heres what i have replaced: 1) The ignition switch on the column,2)Solenoid, 3)Battery,All the cables , positive , negative, starter cable, 5) Neutral Safety switch. What do i do now? what i really would like to know is this: I want to rewire my ignition switch so that it bypasses everything like the Neutral safety switch. How would i do that? Just take the red w/blue wire from the switch and splice in some new wire directly to the battery? ?Does that effectiveley bypass everything? Thanks so much for any help you guys can provide !
Hey now correct me if I'm wrong, but if the click your hearing is coming from the solenoid, wouldn't that indicate that everything would be okay with your ignition switch and neutral safety switch. I know you've replace alot of stuff so all I can give you is my personal experience with the same problem you're having. The solution was either the short positive cable from the battery to the solenoid or the connections with said cable. If that solenoid is clicking then everything other than battery, cables, solenoid and starter has to be working. Put a meter on the output of the solenoid and check the voltage when trying to start just to see if it drops.
ITS BEEN FIXED ! Heres what was going on. On a previous attempt to fix this problem, i had crimped on a new connector for the Red+Blue wire on the S terminal of the solenoid. Well, that crimp was bad, and not making connection. So what i did was, splice together some new wire to the red+blue one so it was lengthened, and re-crimped it. The truck started right up. Sometimes, we should all re-check our own work before we start jumping to conclusions ! :-P But now i'm very happy, because now i can fix the gas gauge problem that i have been putting off. I also got the hance tonight to fix my bogging problem, and now my 302 runs GREAT ! I'm back in love with that truck now ! Thanks for the ideas guys. Jon
