Hmmm AOD slipping????
I have an '86 5.0L (100 miles on rebuilt engine) but it still shakes and stumbles with mild acceleration. I've noticed if I put the truck on a steep grade, the truck will slip backwards at idle. if i give it just enough gas to hold steady and then move forward (jest creeping), it moves and stops, moves and stops.
Accelerate and it moves forward better. Is the tranny not locking up as it should? I think this is some of the shaking I feel at highway speeds. Is there a way to test the tranny?

. The AOD doesn't lock up until you hit 3rd gear, and it sounds like you are burning up your fluid by holding it in place like that. Use the brake, and change your filter and fluid.
I'm the one with the earlier post "86 runnung like poo" and found the valve guides shot.
Had it rebuilt and Got a three year unlimited mileage warranty with it!
got the engine back last week and got it going yesterday.
Idle is so much smoother! and it holds highway speed alot easier, but I still have the shaking during acceleration. Now every thing is new.
Engine, dist. body, cap, rotor, wires, injectors, egr, Tranny fluid is 1 yr old with new filter, throttle body clean, TPS voltage in spec. timing 10 degrees BTDC (spout out) yet it still shakes. Almost feels like a broken tranny mount, or somthing out of round, but usually the shakes happen during acceleration. Not quick accleration, but gradual. Even holding the throttle at about 1500 rpm in park or nuetral she's got the intermittent shakes.
I was at a Ford Dealership looking (not to replace this one) but add to the collection, when I was in the lot with a steep grade looking, thats where I had to give it a little gas to hold ang it would "grip and roll back, grip and roll back"
I'm thinking the tranny is doing some of the shaking for me.
