Hi all this is my first time here, and as you can see by the name i am so lost.
Ok here is the problem. I have an 1988 F-250 4X4 with a 300 inline 6 . ok thats not the prob, but the starter sticks when i try to start it i have had to put 8 new starter solenoids on it and even had it in the shop 2 times THAY dont have a clue. i have to disconnect the batery hot wire to stop the starter and then replace the solenoid. does any one have any ideas on what could be wrong ?
you could have the ignition switch checked for correct adjustment, or alignment.
as it may not be returning to the run position, at the switch it self, even though the key does return to the run position on the steering colum.
when i had it in the shop they told me it wasnt the ignition.they pulled the ignition wire off the solenoid and it still cranked, it was in an starter and alternator shop and they had never seen anything like it.
it sounds like your windings may be bad, the pull-in winding isnt pulling the bendix back out of mesh with your flywheel or something. I would remove the starter and have it bench tested, you can do it yourself with a 12V battery and some jumper wires if you are so inclined, just ground it out and touch your hot lead to ( I believe) the "S" terminal, you may want to check in a tech manual before doing this as I havent done this test for quite a while. Anyways, hope this helps you out, and good luck!
