I recently had a check engine light diagnosis to code P0460 by a dealer. They concluded that I needed a new "fuel level input sensor" which they didn't have in stock. Does anyone know if this is the sensor that goes in the gas tank? I have replaced my stock short bed fuel tank with a Transfer Flow 46 gallen tank, and am hoping this isn't the cause of this condition.... I have to go to a different dealer to get the repair done, and the original dealer already cleared the code, so the new dealer will need to "take my word for it" or maybe they can look up the other dealers diagnosis report?
Why can't the original dealer do the repair? Once the code clears, it won't return? Did you get the check engine light right after you changed the tank?
I was on vacation a few hundred miles from home when this happened. He could have done the repair, but had to order parts, and I wasn't going to be around that neck of the woods by the time the parts came in.
I had run several tanks of fuel through the new tank before this happened, so I don't really believe the new tank is the cause, but it could be an excuse for Ford to deny a warrenty claim?? I guess I'll find out later this week when my in-town dealer gets to it.
The light came on, and stayed on through several restarts as the days driving progressed. It eventually turned itself off, and the dealer got the code a few days later when I got to him. The light was OFF when the dealer got the truck, and it hasn't reappeared since.
