Does anyone have a good picture of an alternator and accompanying brackets? If it matters the truck has PS/AIR/AT/460 .. got the alternator and ps and all lined up with belts still trying to figure out this alternator tho..
I bought the truck with the engine taken apart so I didn't have the benefit of takin' the parts off myself for refrence...
I didn't post this in the 385 engine forum because I know some of the belts are different in different years. My 91 has a serpantine belt.
I have an 83 model 460 in my 73 model truck. My brackets came from a 74 model truck. I have A/C, P/S, and alternator on mine. Will pictures of mine help you? If so, I would be glad to email them to you or post them in a gallery.
Mike, Things are so close together in my engine compartment that I couldn't get a good picture. So I'm going to describe it, and hopefully you can put yours together from that. As you put this together, just screw everything in finger tight. You should have 1 lng narrow bracket that has a long slot for the adjustment. Run a long bolt through the little hole in that bracket, through a long spacer (probably 3 inches long) in to the block. Should be a hole just to the left of the timing chain cover and maybe an inch above the oil pan. Next you have the triangle shaped bracket with 5 holes in it. The bottom bolt is the same bolt as the adjustment bracket. The next hole up, there will be 2 bolts to the far left of the water pump. Bolt your bracket to the bottom bolt of the water pump. The next hole up is big enough that it will go around the next bolt up on the water pump. To the left of those 2 bolts on the big bracket is another hole. Leave it empty. The next bolt hole to the left of that, run another long bolt through the bracket and through a short spacer in to a hole on the top left side of the block. The hole will be just under the head. Your fan belt will go around the alternator, and the very inside groove of the crank shaft pulley only. You will need to put that belt on with your water pump pulley off because the belt won't fit between the crank pulley and fan pulley. It is a very short belt, but once again, it only goes around the crank and not the fan pulley. I sincerely hope this helps you. If not, let me know, and we'll try something different.
