ok, i've been living with this for about a month (since i bought the truck), but the PO installed a switch on the dash for the wipers, just a simple on/off, it's wired in place of the fuse. if you install the fuse the wipers run non-stop, the stalk will not turn them off. you can turn them on "hi" and use the washers, but they will not go any lower than low.
so, i'm thinking something in the stalk is bad, so i'm gonna try to find a replacement stalk.
any other suggestions? i'm not scared to do a little electrical investigation--just tell me where and what to look for!
I use 17 on mine. it had larger when i bought it but they overlapped the glass on the top. look in the book for a 1995 or 1996 and see what it says for them. when ford changed the half tons and not the larger trucks it screwed up a lot of the parts books. the last time i tried to order a door part for a 97 F250, they sent me a part for the new body style and it wouldnt work!! good luck
I agree with Gotdiesel. If you have a 97 I have found it to be a nightmare when ordering things for it. I got tired of explaining the difference between the F250 models that year. Just tell them 96 and most of the time that works.
Yes, I have found that many parts books are screwed up because of that year. Lookup a 97 f250 at your local car audio place and they'll tell you that you have 6X8's all the way around. Ouch! Bought a pair and found out I've got 5x7's in back! Had to "squeeze" them in.
I have an F-250 Heavy Duty. The stock tires are 235 85 r16. every tire shop i have taken it to says i have the wrong size tires on it. apparently the regular f-250's have 245 75 r16 and almost no parts books have the f-250 HD in them.
Gotdiesel, what's it say in your manual for tire size? I'll check mine when I get home tonight. I also have the actual Ford Service manual on DVD at home and I'll check that as well. I'm curious to see what the stock size is. Mine are 295's on there now. I'll verify the other dimensions as well.
i dont have the book but 235 85 r16 is what it says on the door. i know that is also what ford used on it larger trucks around those years. we have a 96 1 ton drw bucket truck and it has the same size.
have you looked at the bottom of this page? it tells how to remove the switch. maybe jsut removing it and cleaning it will help. if not you will already have it out if you need to replace it.
