I've had a 56 f-100 for 7 years. The paint code is "D RED". I've never been able to find anything on this. I know that D is Diamond Blue, which is the original color but what does the "RED" mean? Any ideas?- Richard Talley
I've already been to that site. I have original DuPont chips from 56 at work and they didn't help either. I've researched this code everywhere I can think of but nobody shows a "D RED". The truck was originally light blue which was the D code, but I can't figure out what the RED means. Thanks -Richard
I know that "R" is red. My dad has a 56 that was originally red. The problem is that mine was originally baby blue. I checked in several places and it's still blue. That's why I can't figure out what the RED in the "D RED" paint code. I've never seen one of these trucks that had a color printed on the ID plate after the paint code. That's what I'm trying to figure out. As far as I can tell the truck wasn't two tone, and I don't think Ford used red as a two tone color anyway. As far as I know they only used the colonial white as the second color.
Richard,
First of all, welcome to FTE! Glad to have another old truck guy around. If you get a chance, set up a gallery so we can all ogle over your truck.
I don't have a clue on your paint code. Is there anything about your truck that is unique? Did a previous owner possibly change the cab from a different truck? The VIN should help decode this, if it was something like a cab only or a cab from a larger truck. I'm just making some wild guesses here.
