My 76 F-100 4x4 360 was back firing and then would quit running until it cooled off. I replaced the ignition module on the fenderwell and it stopped back firing and it runs without stalling but now it has a run on problem every time I turn it off.Do I need to retime it after the new box was installed ? It also seems to run a little hotter now.Any help is appreciated.
Sounds like it's running advanced quite a bit. Pull the vacuum line off the vacuum diaphram on the distributor, plug it, and set the timing to 10* BTDC. Plug it back in and you're good to go.
If you still get run-on, try a can of Seafoam, according to their directions (in the carb). Also try lowering your idle speed if needed.
Thanks Rusty, what does the seafoam do and how is it used, does it go in the fuel tank? I will reset the timing tomorrow and see if it helps, thanks again.

It's a product you can buy at autozone and some other stores. It's been around forever. Basically, it's some light oils and solvents. The way you use it is, you remove the air cleaner, run the engine, rev it up a little bit by hand, and slowly pour it into the carburetor. It removes carbon from the combustion chambers, reducing the tendancy to ping and run on.
Rusty,I finally found time to retime the 360,set at 10 degrees and it runs fine and has stopped the run on problem.thanks for the good advice.
