The valve covers (mostly the driver’s side) are leaking a lot on my `91 Explorer with the 4.0L motor (pushrod).
I plan on replacing both gaskets but was wondering if this motor has had a problem with these gaskets and whether there was a better gasket to use or a sealant to be added.
Also, the P/S pump is leaking at the location where the fitting for the high pressure line attaches. The high pressure line attaches to a metal fitting and that fitting is then sealed against the plastic reservoir. The leak seems to coming at that union of the plastic reservoir and the metal fitting. Is there a method to reseal the unit?
When you replace your gaskets, i would strongly recommend getting them from the ford dealer, they are expensive, but they of a steel, and rubber or neoprene composition, they withstand high heat, and have used them on my 92 4.0 litre and have not had a problem with them. The new gaskets from ford are a new design from the original with the 3 steel studs embedded in the cork.
As for the pump, i am not sure how to fix it, i have never had a problem with mine, but please post your repair if you fix it as i am interested.
