With a diesel, Is there anyway to do some sort of electrial in cab switch that i can flip that will disable the motor. Im wondering because i leave my truck sometimes at the airport and the office for multiple weeks at a time while traveleing for work. I dont want to get out and disconnect the battery. Something easy.
There is a fuse that powers the PCM. A fuse for the fuel pump. I had a device one time that had several of the essential circiuts go through a removable cap that when removed disabled these devices. With something like this anyone stealing the truck would have to tow it.
I have something under my dash directly below my steering wheel its a little plug in type thingy. If you take it out the truck will not start. It must be in. Came from the Ford house like that. Thought all of them had it???

this can be acomplished with 2 30amp 12v relays and a hidden switch,, You have to cut your ignition/starter wire on the steering column and connect to the relays and switch,, you can either use a momentary switch where you would need to press the switch each time before starting truck or if you use a SPST toggle switch you can just turn the switch off when you don't want the truck to start,, You can even get real creative and connect it to an accesory like headlights, radio, brake light, Etc, as one of them would need to be turned on before the truck will start,, its a basic design and fairly easy to do,, I have not done my 04 yet nor a diesel but should make no difference as all its doing is killing power to the starter,, I don't know the color of the ignition/starter wire on the steering column but I'm sure someone out here will know, its usually the largest wire there and can be checked with a test light, If you can do it yourself you are looking at maybe $10 for the parts. I've added a like below , if you can open it, , look at the wiring for Passive Starter Kill,,, if not e-mail me and I'll send you a diagram, http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp

I think these are a local thing here in Texas. Mine was on a 94 Ranger I had. It looked like a dealer installed option.
any idea what color the wire is or where exactly tolook
should be in the harness going up on the steering column but not sure of color for newer ford's. Usually its one of the thickest wires. if you put a test light to it, it will only light the test light when the key in in the start position(while starter is cranking) If you check with a place that does car alarms or remote starts they should be able to look it up,, my book is old and only goes up to mid 90's.. they may have not changed colors but you never know ,,,

Im with Bob, you need to sever power to the PCM. A trained car theif would be used to starter switch disconnections. However, there are probably not many "trained" *DIT Diesel* thieves out there and this would most likely confuse them far more. The truck is TOTALLY reliant on the PCM to function at all, and if it has no power, trying to stealing it without a wheel lift wrecker is totally hopeless. Mount the switch somewhere under your seat, too. They would be less likely to look there.
If anyone wants to try this, I can pull up a wiring diagram for reference.

so what would i do use the relays on the main wire going into the pcm fuse. Where is that fuse under the dash or the hood.
Check your owners manual and find out what fuse it is that powers the computer; it should be in there. Trace the wire back to a remote spot under the hood and splice it for the relay. Wire the relay and your switch into it, and run the switch to the most ungodly remote location (that is still within reach from the drivers seat) that you can think of.
Would you like a wiring diagram of the power supply?
Soooo....you cut the power to the PCM...go away for a few days...come back to your happy to still be there truck...flip the switch back on to re energize your PCM...cool so far.
Question #1: Under normal operating conditions when your engine is turned off and your'e off somewhere doing power curls with your beverage of choice, is the PCM still receiving a signal or power?
Question#2: If the PCM is normally always receiving signal / power does anything have to re-learn anything as a result of re-turning power to a switched off PCM?
